Celebrating choral music for over 30 years...
Pender
Harbour Choir (PHC) is the longest running choral group on the Sunshine Coast of
British Columbia. Established in 1976, men and women from
across the Sunshine Coast who love to sing meet every Tuesday
evening from September to June at the Music School in Madeira
Park. We are embarking on another exciting year
under the leadership of Joy McLeod as Music Director.
Pender Harbour Choir continues its long tradition of bringing
choral music to the Sunshine Coast community. In the fall
of 2008, their first event was the annual Remembrance Day
Service at Pender Harbour Legion. In December of the same year,
they performed for students at Pender Harbour Secondary School
and Madeira Park Elementary School. They also sang for the
Stroke Club and entertained residents of Christensen Village.
The
choir's future plans include continued collaboration with other
groups, which brings unforgettable experiences such as singing
with the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir. Building on the
success of the recent Messiah performances with Powell River,
the Pender Harbour Choir look forward to upcoming concert
exchange visits with other choral groups in the coming years.
In addition to participating in local musical events such as the
Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts, choir members
enjoy participation in off-coast activities. In 2008
members attended the Chorfest Workshop and Sing-Along Messiah
concerts in Vancouver. as well as the Kathaumiwx International
Choral Festival in Powell River.
The future looks exceedingly bright for the Pender Harbour Choir
as we continue to foster the love for choral music in the
communities around the coast , inspire younger generations in
their appreciation of the choral arts, and further nurture the
camaraderie among its members.
