Membership with the Pender Harbour Choir
Members of the Pender Harbour Choir come from across the
Sunshine Coast, each making a serious time commitment to prepare
for two concerts each year (autumn and spring). The choir
also performs for Sunshine Coast charities and in various
community events.
Our emphasis is on having FUN and new members are always
welcome!
REPERTOIRE
Our choral repertoire includes a wide selection of popular
classics, jazz, folk and gospel music sung in three or
four-part harmony, a cappella or with accompaniment.
Performances often feature solos or duets by choir members, and
include accompaniment by piano or other instrumental ensembles.
An all-women ensemble called 'SASpenders" consisting of
some of the women in the choir hold separate rehearsals. The SASpenders
regularly perform select pieces arranged for all-women
voices in our concerts.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals are held at the Pender Harbour School of
Music from 7:00 to 9:00 on Tuesday evenings from
September to May.
Regular attendance at rehearsals is a key factor in being
prepared for performances and the Music Director appreciates the
advance notification for extended absences.
Members are also encouraged to practice regularly at home, or
with colleagues, between rehearsals.
CHOIR DUES
Choir operational expenses are covered by membership dues paid
in September ($75) and January ($75), supplemented by occasional
fund-raising activities to cover the expenses of community
benefit performances across the Sunshine Coast.
Sheet music is purchased, or borrowed from other choirs.
Numbered copies of each piece of music are assigned to members
for their use, and returned to the Choir library at the end of
the season. Pencils are used for personal notations on all
music.
PERFORMANCE ATTIRE
Performance attire combines black shirts (men) and jewel-toned
long sleeved blouses (women) with black pants or long skirts.
At the 2008 Christmas Concert, the men wore their new white
shirts combined with black pants.
EXECUTIVE BOARD
Each year Pender Harbour Choir members elect an Executive Board
with two Co-Chairs, Past Chair, Secretary, treasurer, along with
Coordinators for Publicity, Social, Fundraising, Librarian,
Historian and Community Liaison.
The Executive Board meets once a month to discuss choir
administration details, concert planning, financial planning,
and other matters related to ensuring that all members maximize
their opportunities for fun, as well as to guarantee the
efficient execution of all choir functions.
